Instrumentation: Solo Flute
Duration: c. 6'40"
Using many extended techniques, this original solo flute piece asks listeners to expand their ideas of what the flute can be and do and drives aggressively forward like a chase. I was inspired by both the scene in Laura Ingalls Wilder’s Little House in the Big Woods when Laura’s Pa tells the story of his father being chased by a panther as he raced home through the dark Wisconsin woods on horseback, and my grandfather’s stories about the return of cougars to Lake of the Woods County in the early 2000s.
