I changed this fast jig quite a bit. A solo line (flute 2) played in a slow, free style opens the tune with the gorgeous minor melody. When the player on the flute 1 part takes over, the flute 2’s long drones are reminiscent of uilleann pipes, the national bagpipe of Ireland. Later, the player on flute 1 takes on this role. In the following call-and-response, I put the instruments in the same register so that it’s sometimes difficult to tell which is which.
